Park Resident passes away

March 4, 1924 — Feb. 28, 2006

Mary Hansen DeWeese Baker, a resident of Mapleton Mobile Home Park for many years,
died of pneumonia and congestive heart failure Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in Boulder. She was 81.

The daughter of Andrew Hansen and Edith Gay Hansen, she was born March 4, 1924, in Longmont. She married H.L. "Jack" DeWeese in 1949 in Topeka, Kan. He died. She married Richard L. Baker in 1967 in Boulder. They divorced in 1984.

Mrs. Baker moved to Allenspark in 1956, to Lyons in 1957 and to Boulder in 1958.

A graduate of Clay Center Consolidated High School, she was a Navy Wave from 1944 to 1946 and studied with the U.S. Navy Medical Corps.

She worked as an office nurse for Dr. Frederick Timms from 1959 to 1968, and for Boulder Valley Schools from 1978 to 1989.

She was a member of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in Boulder and the Waves of Colorado.

She enjoyed "her beloved Allenspark, where her family had spent their summers since the early 1900s," the family said.

Survivors include two daughters, Edie DeWeese, of Boulder, and Monica D. Riffe, of Fort Collins; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her former husband; a sister, Lillian H. Howell; and a brother, Frank A. Hansen.

A rite of burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 2425 Colorado Ave., Boulder. The Rev. Mary Kate Schroeder will officiate.
